The floating session has timed out.

Hi,

I am getting the following error during Flare 8 builds (using madbuild.exe instead of GUI)

Code: Select all

The floating session has timed out. Madbuild was unable to maintain a connection to the server.
Flare Exited Unsuccessfully with Exit Code: 2009
This error is brand new in Flare 8, and I want some answers as to why this is happening. The machine I am using to run Flare has a wired ethernet connection to a large enterprise network with a huge pipe out the the internet. What sort of things would cause the 'floating session' to timeout? Does anyone have information on what Error Code: 2009 is? Is this a Windows Event ID, or is 2009 some MadCap specific error code?

Thanks

Richard

Hi Richard,

I'm not sure about your specific error, but I believe there were changes to the madbuild.exe for Flare 8. For example, prior to Flare 8, the command line builder returned 0 (success) despite build errors. As of Flare 8, our builds started failing when there were errors.

This caused problems for us for a project that we use an alias file for one target, but not the others. If we build a different target that is not using the alias file, Flare reports these as errors even though we don't consider them to be. in another project, we have a dynamic help file that includes links to the compiled CHM file. Flare reports these as errors as well since they are links to files outside the project.

Potentially, these changes may have caused some unintended side-effects? I checked their help file, and it only lists up to code 2007.

Thanks for the link to the article, it is useful - but why does it only list error codes up to 2007? Obviously MadCap knows what this error code means, but for whatever reason has decided to not share this info with the rest of us.
