Synonyms not working for me

Post by dtmenges »

I'm trying to add synonyms and can't seem to make them find anything in HTML5.

I have a synonum file in the synonym folder with just a few simple entries.

Is there something to enable in a skin or target that I am over looking?

Just to be clear, this is in the Microsoft HTML Help section, but you mention HTML5 help too - which help output are you using?
Synonyms don't work in HTML Help, but should work ok in HTML5 help.
This feature is supported in DotNet Help and in all WebHelp outputs (WebHelp, WebHelp 2.0 (HTML5), WebHelp AIR, WebHelp Mobile, and WebHelp Plus).
If you are using HTML5, then give some detail about what you've tried and what happens.

There's no setting/option to enable synonyms, they're automatically used by all (compatible) targets in your project.

Sorry about the wrong forum and thanks for the reply. I am using HTML5.

I had placed the names of four automobiles in four topics in my test project. Then I entered four entries as directional synonyms (car-desoto, car-nash, car=rambler, car=hupmobile). Only one topic would show up in the search. I should have entered group synonyms (car=desoto=nash=rambler=hupmobile). Worked fine when I did that. Its amazing what 24-hours away from a problem will do sometimes.

I do have a question about where the synonym file belongs but i will post that in the Web Based Outputs forum.
