Exclude paragraphs with specific tags during import from FM

Post by David Levy »

Hi. I'm looking for a feature I'm familiar with from WebWorks. During import (or after, I don't remember which) I could hide/exclude all content in paragraphs with a specific tag. This was useful for deleting numbering that is relevant in a linear document but not in Online Help. Anything similar in Flare? If not, how do you resolve the problem (deleting unwanted numbering) in Flare? Thanks. David

I'm not sure I understand quite what you want to do, so I'll offer a couple of suggestions. Sorry if I've misunderstood your question and I'm telling you stuff you already know.

If the "numbering" you refer to is for things like heading numbers that need numbers in the printed output, but not for webhelp, then you need to define a style for the headings, and either use two mediums in the same stylesheet (one for print and one for webhelpoutput) or have two stylesheets (one associated with the print target and one with the webhelp). This is just two different ways of being able to have different definitions for the same style in two different outputs.

Next, define the print style to have the appropriate numbering (you will probably need some sort of autonum definition) and define the webhelp version of the same style not to have any numbering. Then, any heading that has that style will appear one way in print and differently in webhelp.

If the "numbering" you refer to is a more general content that you don't want in the webhelp but do in the printed doc, then take a look at Flare Conditions. They allow you do do exactly that.
