What will be in Flare 9?

Post by HelenF »

Hi, is there a way of finding out which fixes/enhancements are going to be in Flare 9?

Thanks

Short answer: Nope. I'm sure that those who do know what's coming are bound by non-disclosure agreements.

Not just that, promising a fix now and then not delivering it for some reason doesn't go over well. When F9 comes out a list of changes and fixes will be available.

And history shows there will be at least one 'didn't see that new feature coming' enhancement to suprise us all.

Like, say, QR Codes?

I guess we'll find out in the next fortnight if their previous release schedule is anything to go by.

I hope not. :)

I just bought the current version one month ago. I couldn't afford the maintenance contract and I understand I won't be eligible for a major upgrade, only point releases on the current one? If that's so, I'll have to waive off upgrading until the release after as I'd rather have access to a full year's use and minor revisions than use the last few weeks of a release without any reasonable expectation of minor revisions.

Unfortunately, going from one rlease to another doesn't really help me as I'm still swimming upstream against the features i'm still trying to understand. :D

That's how I feel on occasions when I open Flare. I learn something, try it out and shortly after I've forgotten it. I sometimes think I have the memory retention of a garden slug. :D

And in our garden, they always remember where the beer is left out for them. Apparently they enjoy beer and cabbage.

I know that, too - that's why I use "external memories" now: paper media (e.g. notebook) and digital media (e.g. mobile phone, mail software for contacts, Know-how documents) ...
That really helps! I can recommend that!

I've seen the MadCap announcement and adds have been popping up on random websites for Flare 9. The date on the announcement, however, says March 5th. Has anyone actually received links to download the new version?

Got mine about 2 hours ago, so the roll-out has begun.

Avast hates Flare 9.0, just like it hated Flare 8.0. I've submitted it as a false positive but history tells me that Avast are unlikely to do anything about it. I ended up adding the Flare app directory to the exclusions list so I could run Flare.

I had heaps of problems with McAfee.

Ended up ditching paid anti-malware. All my machines now have user logons with diminished privileges and MS security essentials. Works for me!

Flare 9 is great, loving the draggable mark-up section at the bottom of every page.

Hi there, has anyone seen any hardware requirements for running Flare 9?
I can feel a new machine coming on, as Flare 8 runs way slower than previous versions on my machine (tech writers are on the lowest rung of the food chain here... ).

Just found what I was looking for: http://kb.madcapsoftware.com/#Flare/Ins ... n%7C_____1
