I updated a project, which included revisions to about 20 topics related to "feature-x", bringing those topics into a new feature-x sub-folder in Content Explorer, and gathering the somewhat-scattered ToC links into a couple of headings in the project primary ToC.
Now I need to get my changes into two other projects.
Those projects were formerly significantly different from the source project, so they had old versions of "feature-x", but now (this release) all three products treat the updated feature-x almost identically.
SO, I need to get the new/revised topics migrated - just copy the folder in Windows.
I need to get the new version of that part of the ToC (including all the links to those new topics) migrated - just use Notepad++ to copy the entire section of the ToC file from the new project to the target project ToC files.
I need to delete the old versions of those topics, some of which have the same filenames, some which don't, but they don't live in that new folder, so - just find them and delete them by hand.
I need to re-direct any links to the old topics toward the new equivalent topics, from various topics and snippets throughout the rest of the target projects - the only way I see to do this is to run a build after I delete the old files, and view the report of broken/missing links. . . then start slaving away, manually.
Any thoughts on the matter?
A better way to get this done in the current situation?
Any better approaches to any of the listed steps above?
Do I have any of them in the wrong order, that will hurt my chances of success with later steps?
Yes, I know I've gotten myself into a mess, but it made sense over the years, until just recently
