Flare on iOS or Android?

Post by feitelberg »

Any chance for getting Flare to run as an app under iOS or Android? Currently, Flare is the only app that prevents me from moving to a tablet at work.

You'd have to ask MadCap, but I can't really see it happening any time soon.

Do you think the current incarnations of iOS or Android are actually suited to running an app like Flare?

Even if a .NET app could be made to run on Linux (Android) or BSD (anything Apple) using Mono and there is enough processing power to move fat app like Flare I wonder if the UI design is touch friendly. I also question if creating content as in typing a lot of text on a soft keyboard is a great experience.

Not Android or iOS, but Flare should run on a Window-8-tablet like Lenovos Thinkpad Tablet 2.
I didn't try, but i guess it would be rather slow.

Still leaves the issues of not having a real keyboard and mouse...try to use check boxes with short or no labels on a tablet, close to impossible unless you use a stylus.

That would have to be one honkin'-big tablet!

I'm staring at a dual-head setup with 24-inch and 27-inch displays, as I type this. Flare is on the right-hand screen, while Outlook and various source documents, and a draw program and some utilities and three or four SSH terminals are on the left screen... and I wish I had more room, so I wouldn't have to keep pausing to juggle windows.

Even if a tablet docked with a decent keyboard, I can't imagine forcing myself to work in such confined screen real estate.

If the employer forced me to do it, I believe I'd be whimpering a lot.... while I opened yet another window to update my resumé.

As soon as you dock a tablet with a keyboard you have nothing more than an expensive and somewhat limited laptop. 'Real' laptops cost a fraction of modern tablets and can do more. Yes, they do weigh a few pounds more, but they are usable for content creation. There is a place and use for tablets, running Flare doesn't seem to be one of them.
