How to use the indexing for web-based output?

Post by CATERAF »

Hallo,

I'm very new to flare and have been asked to create an index for my web output. I chose html5 as my target and I have an html5 skin.
My problem is that I can't get the index to show :-(
What I've done so far:
1. Created my topics
2. Opened up the Auto-index and generated a 'new auto index set'.
3. Added in a few search phrases. "document", "Gauge" etc.
4. Went to my HTML5 skin and made sure in the general tab that 'index' is selected
5. Gone to my target and selected the HTML5 skin from the drop down menu.
6. Tried to view it and :-(, nothing happened. It gives me my web-based output, but there's nothing in the index pane.

Have you got any idea what I'm supposed to do please?
I just followed that from the instruction manual (flareindexingguide.pdf) but I'm really not sure what I'm doing. Also, is the phrase and index term supposed to be the same if I only have a one-word phrase?

If you have any instructions on how to do it (i can just redo it all with instructions, if necessary), that would be very much appreciated. I am rather stumped.

Thanks,
Avril

I'm not sure about the following:

2. Opened up the Auto-index and generated a 'new auto index set'.
3. Added in a few search phrases. "document", "Gauge" etc.

All I do is select a word in the topic editor, and hit F10. This adds a new index keyword, which you can view & edit via the index tab at bottom right (same pane as your Styles tab). They'll be automatically added to the html5 index when you build the output.

Tried to view it, how? You built the target and didn't see anything in the index tab, or did you open the index tab in the authoring environment and it's blank? If it's the latter, then I don't know if you'll see anything if you use the auto-index option. Or maybe you won't see anything until you build the project at least once.

Also, I don't have Flare open to test this, but I don't think the index terms are case-insensitive. That is, if you enter it as Gauge but it appears in the content as gauge, then it might not appear in the index. The glossary isn't case-insensitive, so it's possible the index isn't either.

Thanks very much for the responses!
Unfortunately I didn't have the 'notify me when a reply is posted' so didn't realise you'd replied..
However, what you said it still helpful for me now.

Thanks!
