GlobalProject Linking-setting conditions to images in .flpgl

Post by writer9 »

HI,

I'd like to know the "best practice" for handling this situation: I have a coverpage.flpgl in the global project that I import into 3+ child projects. The only difference for that page is that each child product has a different product logo that goes at the top left corner of coverpage.flpgl. How do I handle that? I thought if I set productname-conditions for each logo image in the global folder and import the images to the child projects, it would work, but it's not working.

Any help I can get on resolving this is appreciated.

Thanks,
Rekha.

Hi Rekha,

What is exactly not working?
You did set the conditions for each child project, but did you exclude the other ones in the target?
I mean, if you have child project A with logo A, child project B with logo B and child project C with logo C and you look at the target of child project B, you need to exclude A and C.

Hi Wil,

Appreciate your prompt response.

This is how I created it and would like to know if there is a better alternative (a.k.a right way to do this):

1. I have placed logo A (inside deco. frame) in the global project cover file and then I imported this file to prod A, B and C (Note: I have to place one of the logos in here as a placeholder instead of having something like a variable where it just picks up the logo based on the product. This works but I was wondering if I was doing this right because I would rather have something like a variable, but I cannot put a variable inside a decoration or image frame---hope this makes sense)
2. I have conditionalized logos A,B and C in the global project images folder and then I imported the images to child prod A,B and C
3. If I want to build child prod B, I have to open the imported cover page, insert logo B and then set conditions in the target in child prod B to include B and exclude A and C

It does work, but is there a better way to do this?

Thanks,
Rekha.

Hi Rekha,

In the global project:
Well, I did put all the logos in the global project cover file (conditionalized).
Then in the TOC file I set also 3 cover files with conditions:
Cover A (with logo A): Condition-A
Cover B (with logo B): Condition-B
Cover C (with logo C): Condition-C

In the child projects:
Target A: Exclude Condition-B and C
Target B: Exclude Condition-A and C
Target C: Exclude Condition-A and B

If you want you can also put the targets in the global project.
After all, you have to do those settings only once.
And if you want to change something, e.g. the logo, you do it in the global project.

The only discipline: reimport when you change.

Of course I don't have exactly like this, but analogue.
I am lazy, so just like you I try to find the most effective way without possibilties to make mistakes.

In my case I use also Flare to create factory acceptance tests. For internal use I have a Word target, but for customers a PDF target. Both have different pictures to use. That's were I use this way of working.

HI Wil,

Thanks for the detailed reply! I did it slightly differently and it worked. What I did not know earlier was that I can put the conditionalized logos in the cover file.

This is what I did:
Global project-
1. Conditionalize the logos and add all of them to the cover file
2. Import the cover file including the cover page layout to the child projects

Child project-
1. Set target conditions (for prod A- incl. A and excl. the others etc.)
2. Generate the project

I don't know what you meant by "in the TOC file I set also 3 cover files with conditions". Why would you want to have three different (conditionalized) files in the TOC in the Global project when you don't generate your target from there?

Ah, I used 1 TOC for different targets in my case. Then it depends on the target which cover to use. In fact, nothing special.
Any case, we found each other how to deal with such cases.

Lot of succes
