Situation: I am using Flare 7.
- I want to be able to compile to both PDF and Word.
- I want to be able to show chapter numbers in the headers and footers.
Chapter and section numbers are system variables that will work in page layouts in PDF but not in page layouts in Word.
These number variables, however, will appear properly in master pages.
I've set up master pages for the Word output and those look good. I've also set up page layouts for the PDF files and those look good. The problem: I can't use the same TOC for both because, as soon as chapter breaks are turned on in the TOC, the layouts for both PDF and Word default to the page layouts.
If there were a way to force the Word output to honor the master pages rather than the page layouts, I think I could generate both Word and PDF from a single TOC. There is a setting in the Word target under "Advanced" to disable the Master Pages for MS Word output -- but I want to do the opposite. The page layouts are automatically the default; I want to turn those off and honor the master pages for the Word output.
Does anyone know of a way in Flare 7 to have Word use master pages and PDF use page layouts, while both share a common TOC that references both chapter and section breaks?

Re: Using single TOC for Master Pages and PDF
I am in a hurry trying to solve a problem myself, but I have the same TOC for WebHelp, PDF, and Word output, and I use the same set of page layouts for both PDF and Word outputs. (I use master pages for WebHelp output.) I have a few things conditionalized for "print only" or "screen only," and I use the chapter/section/page numbering options for each topic. The output has some problems, but not related to your issues. I'd be happy to share more information when I have a bit more time.
