Hello,
if you search for a variable writen like this [sas_creativeType] in Flare search engine, nothing is returned. If you take off the [ ] then the results are displayed. This is not good for our users having the habit to copy/paste the name of variables they can find in our interface.
Is this normal, is there a way this engine could be improved ?
Also, if this is a known limitation of Flare search engine, why isn't there nothing in the online help ? Actually no help topic has ever been writen on the way Flare search engine is working ? or am I wrong ?

Hello Gary,
Thank you for your answer.
Unfortunately, this option was already unchecked in my project. I think it is by default anyway as I have never touched it.
Do you have any other suggestion ?
Thank you
To be more precise, when I search for [, the appropriate topic shows up in the results.
But, if I search for [sas_creative] or [sas nothing comes up.
I really don't understand why.
I haven't been able to do any tests with square brackets on my system yet, Horchata. Might be better to send in a bug to Madcap or to try it in a sample project first and see if it works there.

There's another option on the screen you showed that enables the ability to do partial searches. That will increase the number of search "chunk" files are generated, but allows you to search just on [sas or other partial searches.
As for it not finding the entire phrase, check the topic in the Internal Text Editor and see if there are any tags in that phrase. For instance, if you have a span class around sas_creative to give it a different color from the brackets, then perhaps that's throwing off the search feature (although I would consider that a bug). The partial word search option might solve that problem, but I haven't tested it that thoroughly.

Im also missing this. There is only little documentation regarding this. We see several limitations in flare search. We need improvements & information regarding e.g. search in different languages when no exclude list for other languagesa available.
Possible to modify the weight of title, h1-h5, paragraph body etc. Change font for search result.
Irregular search rank between browsers (madcap has just filed a bug on this when we contacted them #56437)
The flare seach might me a show stopper for us. We need offline search otherwise there is alternatives.
When searching for imbedded information, Flare does not find partial instances of a search term. For example, when searching for an API specific to dollar transactions, I enter "DollarTransaction". I would expect it would find the "GetDollarTransaction" and "SetDollarTransaction" APIs. However, no search results are returned.
This type of partial searching is available in PDF documentation. Some users have found it easier to use the PDF version than using the HTML5 version.
Is there some option in Flare 8 that enables this functionality? I tested this with Exclude "Non-Words" from Search checked and un-checked.
I can't remember if the option is available in v8, but there's an option available in v9 to allow partial-word searches. Note, however, that enabling that option will result in a LOT of new search chunk files being created, which could significantly increase the total output size.
If that option isn't available in v8, then I think your only option is building WebHelp Plus output and tying it into the Windows web server's built-in search capabilities. I haven't done that, but I think it allows for partial word searches.

is enabling partial word search worth the additional (significant, it's more than double) time for generating. I realize, that's up to me, but aside from my searching in outputs that have this enabled and outputs that don't, are there any general usability recommendations?
Has anyone had feedback from their users after they selected Enable partial word searching?
