Mouse "flakiness" with Flares 8 or 9, anyone?

Post by Phlawm53 »

For Windows 7 64-bit, Flare 9.0.0 (and before that Flare 8.0.2), Logitech MX Revolution, UberOptions third-party mouse / pointing device configuration utility.

Does anyone else experience degradation in the operation of one's mouse or pointing device after running Flare 9 (or 8) for a while?

Beginning with Flare 8, and continuing now with Flare 9, after I run Flare for a while my mouse begins to go a little bit nuts. For example:
  • In Windows or Flare, when I try to drag-and-drop of Windows or files, I'm no longer able to "hold on" to the item I'm dragging.
  • In Windows or Flare, When I try to single-click Window resizing areas or handles, I get a "virtual double-click" that maximizes the window.
  • In the Flare XML editor (a.k.a. Topic Editor), text selection degrades to the point where it becomes unusable.
There are other little nits that arise that don't recur often enough to be included in the above list.

After my mouse begins misbehaving in this way, the only reliable way to restore its sanity is to restart Windows.

I did not experience these problems with Flares 6 or 7.

I do not experience these pointing device malfunctions when I use other programs for an extended period of time.

Anyone else experiencing anything similar?

Cheers & thanks,
Riley

Hi, yes, you are not alone.

I also find the mouse degrades to the point where I need to click multiple times to gain focus/insert the cursor at some location in a topic file in the XML editor. A reboot does improve things. I have a Microsoft USB mouse. Haven't upgraded to Flare 9 yet (still on 8.x), though I did update the Windows 7 Framework version from 4 to 4.5. No improvement there.
