I am using the trial version of Flare 9 on a Windows 7 computer with 4 gigs RAM. The first day I installed it, I launched the program but was promptly taken away to work on something else, so Flare sat idle for 2-3 hours. When I did try to use it, it had hung and I had to use Task Manager to kill it. I was taken off the project again for a couple more hours and when I came back that time I got a message from Flare that it had stopped responding and would close. I opened a ticket with Support, but they haven't heard anything of this nature. The ticket remains open, however.
Today I was doing some rather fidgety stuff, so I was building the project pretty frequently -- add something, build, review, add another thing, build, review, rinse, repeat. I went to lunch and when I returned I tried to continue with what I had been doing. I added a new topic, but it would not let me edit it. I could position the cursor, but backspace and delete did not work. I could only highlight and delete entire elements using the right-click > delete menu. In some cases it looked as though I could edit text, but when I refreshed the edits were gone. I finally resolved this by restarting Flare.
This is just, so far, a 3-day test and I'm trying to see if I can see a pattern. Has anybody else had these kind of strange behaviors from Flare 9?

Re: Flare 9 Performance Issues?
Have you verified that you have the correct version of .NET installed (.NET 4.0)?

I have .NET 4.5 installed. I have to have that version for the product I'm documenting.

I had an issue with Flare that was attributed to .net 4.5. After removing that version and installing .net 4 the issues disappeared.spinsterweaver wrote:I have .NET 4.5 installed. I have to have that version for the product I'm documenting.

I dunno. According to the Flare System Requirements (http://kb.madcapsoftware.com/default.htm#cshid=IAR1017F), you need .NET 4.0 or later, so Flare should support 4.5. If it isn't, you should be submitting a case or a bug report to Support.

Is uninstalling the only way to tell if the problem is .NET? Gary, were you having similar issues to mine?

Re: Flare 9 Performance Issues?
I had minor editor issues, but once support asked about .Net version I immediately went back to 4.0 (from 4.5) and have had no issues since. All I did was remove 4.5 and installed 4.0 (I didn't uninstall Flare v9).spinsterweaver wrote:Is uninstalling the only way to tell if the problem is .NET? That said, I've been using Flare since v1 so I'm kind of used to the little issues that crop up with each new version.

Re: Flare 9 Performance Issues?
I had this problem also.
Tried a repair of .Net 4.5; didn't work.
Uninstalled .Net 4.5 and re-installed .Net 4.0.
It seems to be stable now.

Re: Flare 9 Performance Issues?
Thanks y'all. Since uninstalling is not an option for me, and a problem with .NET 4.5 seems to be a recurring theme, I have submitted a bug report. It is Case 46877.
