Breadcrumbs and images position

Post by Crazylegs »

Hi, I'm trying to style a help file that was completed by someone else, I'm just changing colours, adding logos etc. I'm struggling to find out how you change the position of breadcrumbs and images. At the moment, the breadcrumbs are in the top left corner of the main frame, I would like them in the top right. The same goes for images - I have added a logo, but it is aligned right. I need it to be centred in the main frame below the text. I'm outputting to HTML5.

Thanks

The breadcrumb proxy is positioned in the masterpage. At least, that is where you add the proxy, so that is a good place to edit the underlying HTML to position this element where ever you want it in your output. This is a case where local styling is actually a good thing, since it allows you to override any styles set in a referenced style sheet.

Go to Content Explorer > Content > Resources > MasterPages > to find the specific masterpage being used by your output. Open that file and position the Breadcrumbs proxy using local CSS.

Actually, you might have to do a bit more. The breadcrumbProxy is a DIV, so you can't really set it left to right unless you're going to float it. You most likely want to set its style in the stylesheet to have text-align set to right. I don't have Flare open at the moment, but it seems like you should be able to set text-align:right on the base breadcrumbProxy style; I don't think you need to go a level down, but you might have to test it.

I don't think you can control the position of the logo in the top of the HTML5 navigation without modifying a file post-build or adding a script to the toolbar. Is the logo in the top navigation area of the output, or is the logo actually in the topic? If it's in the topic, then check the masterpage. If it's in the top toolbar area, then that might be a bit more difficult to track down, although if it's staying in place after you build, then that would imply it's a script as opposed to a post-build modification to one or more files.

I think the OP is talking about images in the topics themselves,
I have added a logo, but it is aligned right. I need it to be centred in the main frame below the text. I'm outputting to HTML5.
Maybe, Crazylegs, if you can give some screen shots to show us what you don't like, and what you are trying to achieve, we can better help.

Thanks for the replies. I'm totally new to Madcap Flare, so still trying to work everything out. I'll take a look today and see what I can do. I have uploaded a screengrab with comments to show what I am trying to achieve. I had to remove company logos etc though. If you look at this online help, you can see what I am trying to do with the breadcrumbs - http://files.zend.com/help/Zend-Studio/ ... t_tool.htm

Ok, I managed to get the image centred, it's just the breadcrumbs I need to move now. When I preview the page the breadcrumbs are on the right, but when I build the project they are still on the left. Any thoughts?

Regarding breadcrumbs, is there a way to anchor them to the top (or bottom) of a page so that they always remain visible even when someone scrolls?

I saw a nice WebHelp system in which a thick border surrounded the entire main frame content and didn't scroll with the content. This got me thinking about placing the breadcrumb in this border so that it's always visible. Better yet, it'd be nice to include as part of the Toolbar frame. Ideas?
