Broken link after (forgot to) rename

Post by henkjans »

after renaming a topic and forgotten to click [update the links] in the project,
building wil always result in errormassages (warnings).
when I view all links to/from that renamed topic I see (see attachment, blue box) the broken link
but how do I get it removed?

looking forward to an answer.

kind regards

It's not clear from the image whether you renamed the file called "i_sy_po_arttxt.htm" or the one named "imssystprogoptionsprint.htm".

I suggest that you open the topic that has the broken link in it to the renamed topic and then edit the link to hook it up to the renamed topic. If you're comfortable working in the code in the Internal Text Editor, you could find the broken link and manually type in the correct filename.

I hope this gives you enough to solve the problem. If not, post back.

I thought of another -- perhaps better -- approach, at least to start with. (I don't have Flare open at the moment so am going on memory.) I think on the Project* ribbon you'll find the Analyze Project or Project Analysis command. With that, you can have Flare search for broken links. If it displays any hits, you can double-click a hit to be taken to the file with the broken link, and I think that the link will actually be highlighted, so you'll know exactly which is the broken one. You can also search for broken bookmarks, which you might want to do because your image above shows some broken bookmarks, too.

*Correction: The View ribbon...

thanx Nita for your replay.
I renamed the file "imssystprogoptionsprint.htm", I don't have the Analyzer program and so I can't find the broken link.
even by your advizes I can't find it :(
It's a warning and so it will not effect the target HTML.
Maybe when I'm standing before delivery of the final Target, I will buy the Analyzer.
thanx

So there is definitely no link in the file you are currently in to the 'imssystprogoptionsprint.htm' file? Linked to: should mean there is a link in the current file that is pointing to a missing file. (But it's late on a Friday, so maybe I'm missing something obvious. :) )

You don't need the full Analyzer program. The feature I refer to is right in Flare. On the View ribbon, it's the Project Analysis feature.

Can you use Flare's Find in Files or Find and Replace and search for that filename? Be sure to search in the source code.

thanx Nita,
I had to hack the source code.
Using the Find option I found the broken link.
What I don't understand is that

I deleted an old image1 (inclusive links) and
I add a new image2 (and made new links)

in the source code I find code for both images (1 and 2). Thats why the old (broken) link was still there!

Does anybody know why deleting image1 (incl. links) leaving the code intact??
Maybe because I used the Del-key instead of Flare-Delete.
