Is there way to break all topic links to global project

Post by Sharpras »

Can I break topic links to my global project all at once? That is, can I globally break the links between the Source project and all topics in my child project? Or all topics in the same folder in my Child project?

So in future, you don't plan to reimport from the global project?

If that's the case, here's a way to break all (or many) of the links to the global project. After first making a backup of the project in case things go awry, move all the imported topics to another folder, temporarily. I believe that that will break all the links, and be sure to update (internal) links when prompted. After that grand move, move all the topics back to the original folder, assuming that's where you want them.

FWIW, I've not tested this idea, but I'm pretty sure it'll work.

Backup, backup, backup before trying it!

Thanks, NIta.

I moved the linked files (within Flare with the View Files column visible) to a new folder called Temp. The links broke and I could edit w/o the warning and request for decision. When I moved them back to the original folder, however, the links reconnected. Any further edits displayed the warning again. So I guess the solution is to just leave them in the new folder.

I wonder if getting rid of the import file after the first move and before the second move would have any effect? Just a guess.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a backup before trying this.

You should be able to delete the import file to remove the link to the global content. I just tried it, and it seemed to work. But yes, always back up first! :)

Yes. Deleting the import file breaks all the links. I didn't even have to move the files to another folder.
Thanks.

thanks for discovering this, and for bothering to post about it :)

i've inherited a dog's breakfast, made of dry biscuits and wet pseudomeat. i wanted to break the links to project biscuit and project pseudomeat, so i could file all the reusable stuff in a shared project breakfast, from which i have child projects dog, cat, human.

your post helped me not to have to go wiggle through that breaking import links malarkey
