Subversion 1.8 Released June 12
Note: Flare used the 1.7 DLLs for its working copy of SVN.
It does not support the new 1.8 working copy and the 1.8 working copy is not backwards compatible.
MadCap is researching the new 1.8 but as of now Flare does not support it.

Re: Subversion 1.8 Released June 12
Hi Rob,
Thanks for this update.
I work in an enterprise environment where tool changes are glacial. Our SVN team finds a version that works and we stick with it.
I am concerned that at some point Flare may adopt incompatible DLLs in its integrated client. For example, we are still using SVN server 1.6.
How can we mitigate our risks here?

Is there any update on this issue? My developers and I upgraded to SVN 1.8 and it's tedious to have to jump out to the file system in order to commit files.

Is there news on this topic? Our company is using version subversion v1.8 on the client side throughout and Flare users are currently forced to use additional command line SVN toolkits in v1.7 which is not only rather inconvenient but also more error prone than GUI-driven tools.

Re: Subversion 1.8 Released June 12
We found the Server can be upgraded to 1.8 and will still support the client 1.7 dlls.
Problems arise if the client uses anything that will upgrade the .SVN folder to 1.8.
For instance:
Tortoise 1.8 (Client) will ask the user to upgrade the .svn folder to 1.8. If this happens, Flare will no longer recognize the bindings to Source Control and give an error that the current client needs to be upgraded. The 1.7 dlls do not recognize 1.8 files.
Flare 9 can and will work with SVN Servers that are 1.8.
Just please be sure to keep any SVN Clients (Tortoise etc) limited to 1.7.
Hope that makes sense. If not, please let me know.

Hi,
Can you tell me if there is any update on this? Is there a Flare version that supports integration with Subversion clients v 1.8 and greater? Any roadmap for this?
Thanks,
Ed

Flare 10 supports SVN 1.8.x. If you use TortoiseSVN also, be sure to upgrade it also to a version that supports SVN 1.8.x.

RETIRED, but still fond of all the Flare friends I've made. See you around now and then!

Thanks Nita! Just curious - Do you know if Flare 10 supports 1.8 or requires 1.8? I'm assuming it is not required but just wanted to confirm.

Re: Subversion 1.8 Released June 12
Flare 10 appears to require 1.8.
This seems to be the core of the issue I was reporting in another thread.
When I open an SVN project in Flare 10 I am prompted:

Flare 10 has no issues that I have found thus far working with the 1.8 version of SVN. However, if I attempt to perform any operation in Flare 9 that accesses SVN (build, refresh, etc.) I receive:

I'm guessing that my workaround will be to use a separate working folder for anything in Flare 9 and then perform my checkins with Tortoise. Or actually, just use Flare 10 and don't worry about this unless someone else accesses my projects using Flare 9.

Re: Subversion 1.8 Released June 12
Note that a given Subversion working copy may be 1.7-compatible _or_ 1.8-compatible, and once it's been upgrade to 1.8 you can't go back. Also, a given PC can only have a single version (1.7 or 1.8 ) installed.
Additionally, at least with regard to 1.7 versus 1.8, the Collabnet SVN server is agnostic: either or both clients can access the server.
