Hello
I'm trying to host a HTML5 project on a web server for the first time. I've read the instructions in the Flare Help PDFs and they say that there are settings that need to be in place on the company's web server. The problem I have is that I am using a hosting service, so don't have access to the server and certainly can't install anything on it. Can I just upload a project to a domain via an FTP or will that not work?
Thanks

Yes, you can. The only thing you might not be able to is to use features like Feedback or Pulse. Those require IIS and need special software to be installed on the server. That said, if you use a decent hosting provider they should be willing to work with you. It is not an unreasonable request. I assume you did your due diligence when selecting the provider, because hosting puts all the eggs into one basket and if that basket drops the eggs will break. Meaning - as with many cloud services - if the hosting provider runs into issues and doesn't have means to switch your site to a backup system you are out of luck. No server means no help. Sure, that can happen when you host yourself as well, but for help any newer PC and a business grade Internet connection will work as backup. And you can do whatever you need to do.

Thanks. I don't actually need the help up - it is just a sample for my online CV (that might be resume to you!). The hosting company have been pretty dire so far, so I won't get my hopes up.
So to launch the help in a web site, what file do I link to?

I had Latin in school... but if you put that into your CV you should know how to call WebHelp.
By default, that file is called default.htm, but you can set the file name in the target on the General tab by specifying a different name for "Output file".

Oh, i kind of expected it to be default.htm to load the 'home' of the project. That just seemed too obvious! I wasn't sure that the skin etc. would still load into the browser.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Loading the default file will drag everything with it that is default. If you want a specific topic or skin to be used you can specify that in the URL. See this topic in the Flare help: http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare ... lopers.htm

Don't be afraid to find a new web host. There are some great hosts out there for around $5.00 per month. I won't make a recommendation publicly in this forum, but if you contact me directly I'd be happy to recommend one.
