Camtasia videos won't play in Flare topics

Post by Scotty »

Hi all,

mp4 videos (with a swf control wrapper) that I produce in Camtasisa won't play in MyWebHelp projects produced in Flare 7.2.1. The wrapper appears, but then there is just black screen where the video should be playing. The time bar doesn't move when I click play.

I can view the same videos with wrapper without a problem when I open them manually in my browser. This goes for Chrome, Firefox and IE.

I've tried dragging and dropping the swf file into a topic and I've tried going through the Insert->Multimedia->MP4 route.

Ideas?

Cheers!

OK, solution:

The problem was that although inserting a swf wrapper works, Flare does not ask/know which other files are associated with the wrapper. That is, the wrapper is inserted/noted but the wrapped mp4 file (and other files generated by Camtasia, such as .js and other .swf files) is not.

The second part of the problem is that my WebHelp target had the 'Exclude content not linked directly or indirectly from the target' checkbox checked. Together with the issue noted in the previous paragraph, the outcome is that only the swf wrapper file is included in the build output files.

Check your build output folder (Content->Resources->Multimedia is default) to make sure that all relevant files related to the video have been put into the build!

I know this is an older thread, but I still wanted to pass along a tip if you are having trouble with videos made in Camtasia Studio playing in Flare output.

When you export the MP4, select Use GPU Encoding. After I did that, Flare doesn't have an issue playing the video in HTML5 output.
