Hi All,
I am losing my sleep over creating a specific type of table for our business and am hoping that one of you would be able to assist me!
This is table structure I would like to achieve
Two conditions:
1. Serial Numbers should be of fixed size across the table
2. Content cells should have fixed width height may vary
I am using the default style sheet and Flare version is 9.1.1.
Thanks in advance!

If you use a table stylesheet, you can set up column styles (including widths) in the table stylesheet editor; e.g. set Column1 to be 50px, Column2 to be 150px, etc.

A note about table stylesheets: If you make edits to column widths after inserting the table to a topic, the column widths do not change (at least in Flare V8 it doesn't). You have to go into the Text Editor and delete the previous column widths from the source code (in this example, "style=width: 35px;" and don't forget the space before style):
Now you can adjust the column widths in the TableStyle Editor and see the results.
Code: Select all
<col class="Column-Column1" style="width: 35px;" />
<col class="Column-Column2" style="width: 35px;" />
<col class="Column-Column3" style="width: 35px;" />
<col class="Column-Column1" style="width: 35px;" />
<col class="Column-Column2" style="width: 35px;" />
<col class="Column-Column3" style="width: 35px;" />"I'm tryin' to think, but nothin' happens!" - Curly Joe Howard

@Dave,
Thanks for pointing me directly to the required section.
@ kwag_myers,
I did follow you instruction ..thanks, saved a ton of time for me!
Guys,
One more request, I need a similar table but this time without borders.... following the help pointed to me by Dave, I am able to create tables with borders but not without borders. ( I do not require outer or inner borders).
Kindly help me solve this puzzle!

Again, I'm using Flare 8. In the TableStyle Editor, General tab, the Outer Borders pane has (what I call) a Set All feature to the right where you can set the Style menu (unlabeled, just above the Cancel button) to None. Then go to the Row and Column tabs and set the Separator to None.

Re: The six letter word I hate in Flare - Tables
Thanks to kwag_myer.. I have fought with this for months and just assumed that Flare was misbehaving and wouldn't respond to my 'width'. I tried adding width to the text editor but you had to do it in two places and this didn't always seem to work.A note about table stylesheets: If you make edits to column widths after inserting the table to a topic, the column widths do not change (at least in Flare V8 it doesn't). So glad to know why now!
My question for you -- do you know if I can go and do a 'find and replace' for all my previous tables and get rid of the 'width' part of the code, will it automatically take the new width (without me putting in any new width in the code) or do I need to put in the new width in place of where the old width was in the code?
Thanks,
Avril

Re: The six letter word I hate in Flare - Tables
If the tablestyle is already applied to each table, you just need to delete the syntax I mentioned and the tablestyle will take over. In Flare, the Find and Replace feature (on the Home tab) has the following options:CATERAF wrote: My question for you -- do you know if I can go and do a 'find and replace' for all my previous tables and get rid of the 'width' part of the code, will it automatically take the new width (without me putting in any new width in the code) or do I need to put in the new width in place of where the old width was in the code?![]()

If you only have a few projects, my suggestion is to open each project and perform the replacement of style="width: *px;" with nothing using the (whole project) option. However, I understand Flare can be temperamental about spaces with this feature, so you may have to use a third party tool. My recommendation is Search & Replace Master, which is more suitable for this level of Find and Replace because you can search for whole strings of syntax having spaces.
If the tablestyle has not been associated to all tables, you must do this first as Flare may add the column widths again automatically. I haven't tested this, but it seems like this is the way Flare is set up. Unless you know for a fact that all your tables are to use the same tablestyle, you're going to have to do this one table at a time.
