Internal Error: Network Name Cannot be Found
Internal Error: Network Name Cannot be Found
I get this when i try to publish. It was working before I copied the entire folder from the server to my desktop -- all the settings are the same but now I get this error message.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you absolutely certain you are running a local copy of your project?
Have you shut down Flare and restarted it by clicking on the local project file xxxx.flprj?

hi, sdcinvan, thanks for the quick reply.
yes, i'm sure i'm running the right copy and the machine has been restarted a couple of times since the problem started.

Re: Internal Error: Network Name Cannot be Found
Indeed a mysterious error.
Here are a couple of suggestions (and I am happy to stay on this with you for a few more hours):
1. Try removing pages/chapters from the TOC and republish until the error ceases (assuming it is one or more pages that are causing the problem).
part b) The source of the problem may also be the master css or some other dependency in ..\Content\Resources such as a page layout.
2. Somewhat related to (1)... do you keep backups and/or do source control? (you should) - As well as source control, I also keep a daily full backup of my work. Hopefully, you are also practicing something similar. In that case, can you go back to the last copy that worked? Presumably this is a new issue. Again, it might be a process of elimination to find the issue.
3. Perhaps even more likely... were you at any time referencing a network... especially one that no longer exists? If so, do a search on all your project files for a part of that network name. It is possible that during the publishing, Flare is looking for a dependency that no longer exists.
Please understand that I'm only a baby with Flare but I do have a lot of years of experience with other products.
Good luck

Re: Internal Error: Network Name Cannot be Found
If you've copied the project from elsewhere, delete everything below the Anaylzer and Output folders and everything below Projects\Users. All those folders can be recreated by Flare and there is probably some incorrect file path cached there.

Sound advice from an expert. Forget everything I suggested, Marjorie's advice is all you require.Msquared wrote:If you've copied the project from elsewhere, delete everything below the Anaylzer and Output folders and everything below Projects\Users. Thanks Marjorie.

Well, I'm certainly not an expert, but I know where I've tripped up myself. We can all learn from each other. We are community!

Re: Internal Error: Network Name Cannot be Found
Thanks, everyone, for the help. Unfortunately, even after I removed the folders indicated by Marjorie, I got the same error message. If anyone has any other suggestions I'd be grateful, otherwise I'll call Madcap in a couple of days.
Re: Internal Error: Network Name Cannot be Found
Does it tell you what the name is that can't be found? If so, do a text search on everything below your project folder for that name. Don't use the Flare search as that will only search files it thinks are part of your project source. Use something like Notepad++, that can do Find in Files. When you find where the reference is lurking, you may know how to fix it. If not, post again with the details.
Silly question, but I assume the culprit isn't something like a mapped drive that was mapped on the server but doesn't exist on your desktop? It may be worth checking that the publish destination really does exist and is visible from your desktop.

Re: Internal Error: Network Name Cannot be Found
Just had another thought that may help. The offical Flare way of moving a project is to use Project > Zip Project, then copy the zip file to the new location and extract it.
If there is a lurking reference to the old file location, then moving the project that way may solve the problem for you.

Re: Internal Error: Network Name Cannot be Found
When you say "Publish" does that mean build the target or does that mean Publish the output to a location?
Regardless, open either (both) the Target and the Destination files associated to the project.
In the Target file under the General Tab - Verify the "Output Folder" is a valid location. Often times when people send in their projects, this field is populated and it causes a similar error when we try to build them.
In the Destination file under the General Tab - Verify the "Directory" is a valid location. If this is set to a file system and its attempting to publish to the server location, it might be possible this location does not exist on your local machine.
