Browse Sequence Next & Previous aren't working

Post by Sharpras »

There must be a way to do this in chm Help.
I want the Next and Previous buttons to work in the main toolbar. They are there but disabled whether I open a topic in the TOC or in the Browse Sequence book (within the TOC).

They are disabled whether I set the skin to Automatically Synchronize the TOC or not (I prefer not since I don't want the Browse Seq to open until it's clicked).
The correct skin is set in the Target.

I've made sure no topics or paths have spaces in them.
• I do have many topics linked from a Global Project. Could that be causing a problem?
• I do have topics in the Browse Seq that aren't in the TOC. Could that be causing a problem?
• The Global Project name and folder name are long (22 chars). Could that be causing a problem?

Thanks for suggestions, comments, help, best practices, mediocre practices, etc.

There is a solution, a pretty simple one but an esoteric one.

Open the skin and go to the HTML Help Setup tab. Click the TOC Options button. Select Binary and click OK. That should do it.

This weirdness is not Flare's fault but the underlying weirdness of the Microsoft HTML Help (aka .chm) help format.

You can learn (slightly more) about this option here, under the togglers for Next and Previous: http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare ... Output.htm

BTW, that help topic says also to click the Index Options button and select Binary. But I can confirm that for my .chm help targets, I do not have that option set and my Previous and Next buttons work just fine.

RETIRED, but still fond of all the Flare friends I've made. See you around now and then!

Wow. That's exactly the function I want. Thanks, Nita.
