Madbuild -log true oddness

Post by sdcinvan »

I'm sure there is a logical explanation for this...

Just doing some testing with the Madbuild log function and my command line is this:
madbuild -project Install_Guide.flprj -log true

This project has two targets: 1) InstallGuide_HTML5; 2) InstallGuide_PDF

Oddly, in the InstallGuide\Project\Reports folder, the only log created is called, InstallGuide_HTML5 - September-25-13 [2.32 PM].mclog

But this log appears to have collected data for both targets.

Questions:
1) Why is this log labelled with "HTML5"?
2) Is there anyway to save this log to the same published output folder?

Thank you

The Log file is based on the instance of MadBuild - not per target. If you build all the targets in the project, you will only get a single log file.

If you want a log per target, create a batch file to build each target and it will create a log for each target.
Example batch file:
cd\Program Files (x86)\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare V9\Flare.app
madbuild.exe -project "C:\My FlareProejct\FlareProject.flprj" -target "MyOnlineTarget" > C:\Online\log.txt
madbuild.exe -project "C:\My FlareProejct\FlareProject.flprj" -target "MyPrintTarget" > C:\Print\log.txt
pause

To create a separate log file in a different location use:
the > C:\[address]\log.txt option provided by windows.
Example:
madbuild.exe -project "C:\My FlareProejct\FlareProject.flprj" -target "MyOnlineTarget" > C:\log.txt

Here's another DOS question (I've forgotten whatever it was that I learned):

I have several batch files similar to this:

cd C:\Program Files (x86)\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare V9\Flare.app
madbuild -project "C:\WorkForce\AdministrativeModule\AM.flprj" -log true

I call them up using another batch file:

CALL ACT.bat
CALL AM.bat
CALL AS.bat

... etc.

For each compile, I would like to print the output to a .txt file, then combine (append) the outputs into one large .txt so I can scan through all the reports at once.

How? TIA

add

Code: Select all

 > log.txt
to the end of each line.

This will redirect the output from the command line (normally displayed on the screen) to the specified file, in this case log.txt. The single redirection > creates a new file each time it is used. To append the output to an existing file, use >>:

Code: Select all

 >> log.txt
