Hi,
I have am using one of the website skins whihc has a style names "Example" that looks very similar to the style used for formatting examples on Flare Help.
But, I am unable to use lists or numbered items within my examples.
See the heading "LIST STYLE TAGS" in the topic http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare ... light=list
Any pointers?
Regards,
Deepti

Re: Example Style
You should use a div. A div is a container into which you can put other things: paragraphs, ordered lists, unordered lists, images, tables, and even other divs.
I use this techniques for notes, but it'll work as well for examples. In my case, I have a div called div.ExtendedNote. I style it to have a background color that is exactly the same as the background color I use for my p.Note style. When I need to create an "extended note," I first add a paragraph set as p.Note; that'll get me an opening paragraph that has the word "NOTE" in it. Then I add a second, "plain" paragraph, as a placeholder. Finally, I select both of those paragraphs and then, on the Home ribbon (I think it's "Home," I'm not on Flare at the moment), I select the Group button. Flare prompts what kind of div I want to create, and I select "div.ExtendedNote." Now that I've got the div, with the nice background, I can continue to add things to it.
To even more quickly insert extended notes (or examples), you could save an empty extended note as a snippet with all the styling in place, insert it where needed, convert it to text, and then fill in the content.
Hope this helps.

Re: Example Style
Thanks a lot Nita for the detailed example.
I have followed the steps and it is working fine now. One additional change I had to make - create new styles for p.example (without borders) as an extra border was being added for top, left, and bottom sides.
Thanks again,
Deepti

Re: Example Style
Absolutely right, I don't use a border for my notes so didn't think to suggest that to you.

Ordered and Unordered Lists in Styles Window
Hello!
To your recent posts on the using the div tag, will your Ordered List and Unordered list styles then appear in the Styles Window pane when you elect insert a div tag?
Right now, only the paragraph styles appear in the Styles window, how do get all Styles that you need to use in one pane, so you don't need to copy what you need from other topics?
Thx again,
Susan Steen

Re: Example Style
Susan (and is this really your first post? Welcome!), the default block within a div tag will be a <p> block, just as it is within the body tag. If you want to include a list within the div, make the list exactly as you would anywhere else; then you should see the list styles in the Styles window. Likewise, you can add a table or an image within the div, just as you would anywhere else; then you'll see the relevant styles in the Styles window.
But let me step back a bit: Flare will only ever show you in the Styles window the styles that are relevant to the block you're working in. So if the selected block is a paragraph block, you'll see only heading styles and p styles. If the block is a list or list item, Flare will only show you the styles that are relevant to lists. The Styles window will never show you ALL of the styles in your stylesheet, only those that are relevant to what you're working on.

I hope this makes sense.

Re: Example Style
Hello,
I am trying to take Nita's advice, but I can't seem to find the "Group" function she mentioned. Can someone point me in the right direction? I am using version 9 of Flare.
Thanks very much,
Keri

Re: Example Style
It's on the Home ribbon in the Paragraph group, top row of buttons, farthest on the right.
If you're using the menu interface, it's on the Format menu.

Doesn't it also come up if you hit the tab key? Or did that change?
