Hi,
I have a query about using the SeeLink Xref.
I would like to use this style in many places but, the 'See' part of 'See '{paratext}' always comes up as a hyperlink too (because it's part of the Xref). Is there a way to make the 'see' part not a hyperlink but to only have the {paratext} as the hyperlinked section?
The way I had managed to get around it was to make the 'See' part a specific colour (e.g., grey) and the rest of the xref I left to default (which adopts the hyperlink colouring) but I have many notes and warnings and these are different colours. If I have the 'see' set as one colour, when the Xref is put into the warning (red text instead of grey) Flare won't adopt the red text colour (because I have it preset to grey). I want it to adopt the red and make the 'see' as red, not grey.
Hope that make sense -- I tried to use the html to show it here but it didn't let me have multiple colour tags inside others.
Thanks,
Avril

Re: SeeLink Xref
Hello,
The only thing I can think of is to remove the "See" from the xref altogether and type it as needed, applying the different colors/styles to the words as needed.
For example, when you open the cross-reference window, in the bottom corner you can edit your xref styles. When you highlight a particular style, the Edit... button becomes active. Click Edit... and you should be able to remove any unwanted text. Mine only reads as the topic (see screenshot). I type the other text around the cross-reference as needed to avoid being restricted to "See xref."
Hope that helps!

Re: SeeLink Xref
I have multiple classes of the xref tag with different text for different situations. In my case, I didn't particularly care if the "see" was a link, but I still have two versions of that link, one where it's "see" and one where it's "See", since Flare won't automatically adjust the first letter if the xref is the first word in the sentence. Likewise, I have some differences between how the xrefs are formatted in online output (default medium) versus print outputs (print medium). For example, the online version might resolve to "see 'Configuring the Software'", while the print version might resolve to "see 'Configuring the Software' on page 80".
So in answer to your question, there is not a way to have the word "see" included in the xref and not have it be part of the hyperlink. I have versions of my xrefs without the word "see" for situations where that doesn't work in the flow, so you'd have to do something comparable, where you'd type the word "see" as regular text then insert the xref after it.
EDIT: Yeah, what Alli said!

Re: SeeLink Xref
I don't include the word "see" in any of my xref styles. I think it's part of the text that goes with the xref, not part of the xref itself. So, as Lisa says, sometimes it needs to be "see", sometimes "See", and sometimes neither of these. If I want to my xref to say "see xxx", then I include the "see" as part of the text. I prefer that alternative to defining multiple xref styles (I have enough already, without looking to add more!).
Also, I occasionally come across a situation where "see xxx" isn't quite the wording I want, and I resent the xref style forcing the choice of wording in my document. I'm really not sure why the default MadCap xref style includes "see" at all.
