Data folder Search_Chunk file number and size

Hi Everyone,

I have discovered a big problem with my help system regarding the Search_Chunk xml and js files in the output Data folder.

In the previous release I had 31 of these pairs of files. In the current release I have 91, which seems like a huge jump considering the fact that I didn't increase the size of the help system by a factor of three. I'm running into size issues because of this. The Data file in the last release was a manageable 3MB. Now it's over 8MB. Individually they're not that big, less that 50kB, but collectively they take up a huge amount of space.

Can anyone tell me what these Search_Chunk Data files correspond to? Do they correspond to something in the content topics?

I need to know what I did to cause this massive increase in the number of Search_Chunk files so that I can reverse it, because I'm getting major complaints about the massive increase in the disk space my help system is taking up.

I brought up the same thing, and someone suggested it was because I had selected the "Enable partial word searches" option in the target (or it was enabled by default in whatever version of Flare added that feature). Size isn't an issue for me so I never tested to see if disabling the option brought the number of chunk files down, but you could give it a shot and see if that affects it. However, if you do disable it, then you're removing some search capabilities for your users.

Thanks for your reply, Lisa. Unfortunately I never had the "Enable partial word searching" option selected in my target. My target is exactly the same for the two releases, so it can't be an option in there. The only major change I made was to add a set of 40 topics, but I can't imagine how those would cause the size increase in the Data folder. I even did an experiment and deleted all of those new topics, and the Data folder was still huge. I reduced it by 3 Search_Chunk files, so I'm still bloated by almost 60 files.

I can't figure it out...

me too. i have not only got more and bigger search files, but the huge unexpected jump in size broke our build server and i'm embarassed i've got all the target's performance options the same as they were, although tweaking them i did manage to get the size down a bit, but not by the 16 MB or so that it went up. weird!
