Restrict permissions on PDF
Anyone know why when I restrict editing and copying with a password in PDF options, there is no option to enter the password in the PDF that gets produced? Seems pointless!
Someone's boring me. I think it's me.

Doesn't it normally bring up the password window automatically when you open the file? Or are you opening the file in a browser? I can't say that I've ever tried opening a password-protected PDF in a browser window, so I'm not sure what it does. If your browser is set to block popups, then it might be blocking the password window.

Re: Restrict permissions on PDF
I just tried opening a protected pdf in a browser window.
The pdf was protected against printing or changing, but there was no password protection to prevent it being opened. The file opens in a browser, but the save function is disabled. As expected, I can't edit the document in the browser window.
I then password protected the pdf to prevent it opening. When I tried to open the pdf from the browser I got a dialog box (not a popup) prompting for the password.
I'm guessing the Flare PDF is protected against printing and editing, not opening. I used acrobat to apply the passwords, I don't have access to Flare at the minute...

Re: Restrict permissions on PDF
I've never chosen the "Require password to open option", but in order to restrict editing (not sure what you can actually edit anyway) and prevent copying and pasting you have to set a password for "Restrict permissions (Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.0+)". I have Adobe Acrobat Reader XI installed, but don't see any option to enter a password in the open PDF. There's a File | Properties --> Security tab but no option to enter a password. Isn't the whole point that you are restricting edit, copy and paste to those users who know (and can therefore enter) the password? I had a recent query from a user who wanted to know why he couldn't copy and paste from the PDF. Of course, I can simply turn off the restrictions completely in future, but wondered whether I could give that user the password I entered as part of the PDF properties. Thanks for the replies so far.
