Index Column alignment

Post by sarrants »

I'm using the IndexResizable.fpgl for my PDF index. I am also using an AutoIndex set. When I generate the PDF, the columns are misaligned as you can see here.

The heading (Index) needs to be separate from the index proxy. There are a couple of ways you can do that. You can either hard-code the text in the page layout you're using for the index pages (use a Title Page or First Page page type) or you can create two topics, one that contains just the heading and is set to use the normal page layout, followed by the second topic that contains just the index proxy and that uses the page layout designed for the index.

Even with the heading removed, the columns are still misaligned.

The p.IndexHeading style appears to have a built-in default of 20pt for a top margin. There is an option in the target under the Advanced tab where you can set it to collapse the top margin at top of page/column. See if you have that enabled. I would expect that to work on both columns, though.

However, if that's the first page of the index, then the bug could be coming from the fact that you don't have any index terms that begin with the letter "A", and Flare isn't completely/properly hiding all the space needed for that reserved heading. You could test that by creating a term that begins with "A" and then see if the "A" heading makes the two columns appear flush. Or turn off the option to show index headings and see if the index terms show lined up.

Clearing Collapse under the Advanced tab and adding an A entry did it.

You might want to submit a bug report at http://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx. It shouldn't need to require an "A" index term.
