We have added 4 CPUs to the windows virtual machine where MadCap Flare 8 resides with other applications. At the restart of the machine, we got an error message stating our activation code is invalid. Is there a limitation of the CPUs for MadCap Flare. I was told in the past that it should not be a problem, but maybe a new code needs to be activated.
we are getting the following error when previewing with MadCap
[ERROR] Error: Your MadCap Flare activation code is invalid.
Please advise asap. This is critical since it is happening on production machine.
We have not un-installed MadCap Flare and we have not changed machine either. We just added new CPU.
Thanks for your answers
Best regards
Nicole

It's my understanding that a single license of Flare may be activated on 2 machines, and maybe "CPU" is equivalent in this case to "machine". So it sounds like you've exceeded that. I think you'll need to contact MadCap support. They may advise you to purchase additional license keys, or they may offer some special licensing arrangement for circumstances such as yours. Or, they might know how to address this circumstance without your needing additional licenses.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

The key here is that you basically changed the system you installed Flare on. For Flare it looks as if you activated on an entirely different PC.
Try this: remove the extra CPUs from the VM and start Flare. You should not get that error now. Select Help and click the Deactivate product command. Turn the VM off, add the CPUs back in, then start VM and Flare, activate again. If that does not work contact support.

Just an FYI that I think this wording changed a bit. It can still be installed on two machines, but they have to be on separate domains. I don't recall the separate domains being explicitly stated way back when Flare first came out, but I think they started saying it in the last few versions. The example had always been your work computer and your home computer, which in most cases are separate domains, so it was kind of implied, but now they're making sure to say separate domains.Nita Beck wrote:It's my understanding that a single license of Flare may be activated on 2 machines...
