This seems like a long shot, but I'll ask anyway...
Is there some way to "reverse search" cross-references so that I could find out all the places throughout my project that have a cross-reference pointing to a certain topic/bookmark/heading? Can this information be uncovered somewhere in the topic's properties?
The reason for asking is that in my complete HTML help, I have a ton of xrefs all over that work beautifully, but the same project is due to be split into a number of separate PDF documents. In this case, some xrefs will still properly refer to a page in the same document, but others will lose the reference if their destination is in another document. Knowing how widely spread out the xrefs pointing to a certain topic are would help me restructure the PDFs to have a minimum of manual fussing around with setting print-only conditions or similar workarounds for individual xrefs.
Thanks for any tips!

You can search in the code. For example, if you've added a x-ref to a topic with the filename "About_this_Manual.htm", you can search (in the code) for
<MadCap:xref href="About_this_manual.htm"><span style="color: Blue;" class="mcFormatColor">About this manual</span></MadCap:xref></p>, depending on what formatting you've got.
To find your specific x-refs, look in the Text Editor and you'll find it quickly.

Re: Is there a way to search for all xrefs pointing to a topic?
Thanks, I'll try that! Although as I understand it, the code (text editor) is available only per topic once I open the topic - I suppose there's no way to search all of my project's code at once?

You can see all links to/from a file by using the Link Viewer (View > Link Viewer).
To see search results for the whole project, use Edit > Find and Replace > Find in files.Sarianna wrote:I suppose there's no way to search all of my project's code at once?

Thank you Dave, the Link Viewer has just the functionality I'm looking for, and is more newbie-friendly than searching code
