I had thought I could point my various MadCap projects to a directory outside of Flare where I could have a common cascading style sheet. When I'm in the Target (in the XML editor), I don't see a way to point outside the local directory structure for a particular project .
What are the rest of you doing who have multiple projects that only share a CSS in common (and nothing else)? I don't really want to set up a parent project that has children, I'm just looking for a simple way to reuse the CSS across multiple projects.

Have a look at external resources.
http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare ... ources.htm
Ages ago we set up project templates with the style sheets, master pages, page layouts, skins, etc that we all use, and so always start new projects with the right items. As they don't change very often, a copy and paste has always worked if/when an update is needed.
However, I think setting up external resources would be a good way to go.

OK, it looks like the "external resources" may be a good option. It looks like writers still need to manually synchronize these files, which could lead to trouble if someone doesn't do that. I wish there was a way that multiple projects could just read directories outside of their current directory structure. Maybe this is worth a product enhancement request.

Maybe you can take a look at http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... 13&t=12331 where I describe my work style. Although it is a while back I still work in that way with great pleasure.

You could use a project import to get these files - you can also set up targets to automatically re-import when you build them.
