Flare Editor Displays Large Bullet Graphics

Post by Ken Fredric »

When I apply a bullet style to text in the Flare (9.1.2) editor, by clicking the bullet list icon on the Home toolbar, the bullet graphics displayed to the left of the text are several times larger than normal, and sometimes obscure the text at the beginning of the para.
I get the same result selecting any of the ul options, e.g. Bullet, Circle Bullet, Square Bullet etc.
I'm using Windows 7 Professional on a standard PC.

I would appreciate any assistance to fix this.
Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken, have you edited the li style in your stylesheet and changed the list-style-image?
Using Flare 10.2 and Flare 11 on Win 7

Hi Lydia,
Thanks for the suggestion. No, I haven't changed any elements of the li style.
The only thing I can think of is that I am using a trial version of Flare, while waiting for the approval to purchase, but I can't imagine why this would have anything to do with it.

How large is the graphic being used? Whats the DPI of the image?
If possible try to keep images at 96dpi for best results.

The li style is using the default first_bullet.eps, which is 8 x 8 pixels with a resolution of 72 pixels/inch.

I've tried using the supplied eps bullets, a couple of png graphics (e.g the plus & minus buttons) and created my own 8x8 96 DPI bullet, all with the same result as shown above.
The output is fine, just these extra large bullets in the Flare editor.
This is really annoying and I can't think of anything else to try.
Any ideas?

Ken,
The reason we are asking you to contact support is that we are not seeing the same thing here in our tests.
Attached is a small sample project where a red 8x8 96dpi bullet is being used.
Please open it and take a look. The bullet is set on the UL in the stylesheet.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Could it be because he's using an .eps file as the bullet instead of a bitmapped image (e.g., PNG or JPEG)?

I've tried both eps and png graphics and the result is the same.
I'm talking to MadCap support later today so hopefully this issue will be resolved.

Thanks Rob, but the result is the same with this test project:

I'm talking to MadCap support later today so should get this resolved then.

Hey Ken,

Try de-selecting the option to "Show All Images as Thumbnails".

You can get there by clicking the drop-down with the eye on it, located on the local toolbar.

Yes, that did it!
Thank you very much.
Cheers,
