Can't Edit my TOC

Post by wl606 »

I created a TOC and now need to edit the properties to set chapter starts, etc. When I right-click an entry and select Properties, I get the message: Failed to load persistent dialog settings. Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1.

I've seen this error before, but it's been on opening a TOC, and removing extraneous characters appearing before <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> and saving the file solves the problem, but not in this case. I see those characters and remove them, but this error keeps occurring.

If I click through the message, I can edit everything except the items in the Printed Output section of the dialog.

Would it be worth opening the FLTOC file in a text editor like Notepad++ to see if there's anything really silly going on? I can't suggest what you might find, but that might at least be a start.
Started as a newbie with Flare 6.1, now using Flare 2024r2.

I've opened it with an external XML editor and it validates cleanly.

Just to add some information, I've created a new TOC two or three times, and I always get the same result.

How are you creating the TOC, and what version of Flare are you using?

I used the drag and drop method to pull the content files into the TOC. I'm using Flare 9.1.2.

How are you actually creating the TOC file initially? Using Add Table of Contents from within Flare, or copying an existing one?

If you Add Table of Contents, do you select the default Flare Factory Template, or one of your own?

If you're doing anything other than creating a new TOC from the factory template, what happens if you create one using the factory template? Is that one OK? If so, there may be something wrong with the TOC or TOC Template that you are copying from. If you are using the factory template, then we'll need to look elsewhere.
