Subversion 1.8x *REQUIRED* for Flare 10?
Subversion 1.8x *REQUIRED* for Flare 10?
Will Flare 10 work with an existing Subversion 1.7x installation? We have documentation in Subversion 1.7 and hadn't planned on upgrading Subversion until later in the year. Can we use Flare to with the existing setup or MUST we upgrade Subversion?
The things that we plan and measure are the things that get done.

I haven't tried it myself, but apparently Flare 10 does require SVN 1.8.x.

That's a confusing thread. I still can't tell whether it is required for Flare 10.techwriter31 wrote:I haven't tried it myself, but apparently Flare 10 does require SVN 1.8.x.

Re: Subversion 1.8x *REQUIRED* for Flare 10?
Steve,
Flare 10 can interact with an SVN server that's either at 1.7.x or at 1.8.x. You (or your IT department) do not need to upgrade the SVN server to 1.8.x in order to use Flare 10.
Every SVN-bound Flare project has its own internal SVN database. Flare 10 uses the 1.8.x SVN database structure, while Flare 9 uses the 1.7.x SVN database structure.
If you have a Flare 9 project that you open in Flare 10, Flare 10 wants to upgrade the database structure to 1.8.x. After that, the project can no longer be opened with Flare 9.
Here's what I do while I'm "in transition" between Flare 9 and Flare 10. I actually have TWO working copies of the same project, one in Flare 9 and one in Flare 10. I just have to be careful always to first launch Flare and then to open the correct working version.
One more thing of note: I assume that you also have TortoiseSVN on your computer. It is not possible to have two different installations of TortoiseSVN installed on the same machine, unlike having two different installations of Flare. For instance, I currently have TortoiseSVN 1.7.x on my machine. Until such time as I upgrade TortoiseSVN to 1.8.x, it can interact only with working copies of my Flare 9 projects, but not with my Flare 10 projects. Once I have fully transitioned all of my projects to Flare 10, I will then upgrade to TortoiseSVN 1.8.x so that it can interact with those projects.
I know this is really confusing, and I hope that I've helped to shed some light.

Thanks, Nita! That answered my question.
