Import from Author-it

Post by RobinS »

Hi, I'm importing several projects from an old edition of Author-it (Version 4, circa 2006...don't ask).
Anyone have experience of bringing stuff over from AIT? Part way through the first of them and it's already clear I should have done a lot more tidying up pre-import. Any tips gratefully received! Thanks.

When importing from anything (Flare, Word, AIT) it is always a very good idea to do as much tidying up as you possibly can in the source. I know it can be a pain, but it reduces the pain later on, as it can significantly reduce the number of additional styles that Flare tries to create or the amount of in-line styling that is applied, which you then have to go through in Flare and tidy up.

Best of luck, and I'm sure you'll find the end result is worth the agony.

When I first looked at Flare (version 1!!!) we also looked at AuthorIT. From my recollection AuthorIT uses a database to hold the content but publishes in a similar manner to Flare.

I don't think you can extract the information directly from the database with Flare, but you can experiment with the different outputs using AuthorIT to see which has the best import into Flare. I'd look at some form of HTML, rather than Word documents, to see if that makes the import process easier.

What workflow are you using?
