Clicking tab floats page

Post by MCPBecker »

Every time I click a tab in my workspace, the window floats. I can't figure out how to click a tab to just make the window come to the top. It doesn't matter how carefully I click, depending on how many tabs I have open, every third or 5th click on a tab floats it. Is there any way to prevent this? See movie below.

Possible something in your mouse settings?
Check click speeds, ClickLock, etc.

I don't think so. This problem happened before Flare 9.1, but not after, and since installing Flare 10. I haven't changed my mouse settings. ClickLock is not on, speeds are defaults.

Something I observed from the short video you posted, which may or may not be significant.

You went along your tabs clicking on them, working from left to right and nothing floated. Then you started coming back from right to left, and the first one you clicked on the way back floated. When you were working from left to right, you tended to click on the left side of the tab. When you were working from right to left, you tended to click nearer the right side of the tab.

I wonder whether the problem is sensitive to where abouts on the tab you click? If we assume there's a "hot spot" somewhere on the tab that causes this intermittent behaviour, then you may be able to avoid it by clicking nearer to the left than the right of the tab.

I assume you have got the latest version of .NET installed?

I'll test this theory. I do have the latest .NET installed. We need it for our own product. :D
Thank you,

Did you ever solve this? I've just been idly wondering whether it could be a problem with your mouse (not the settings, the mouse itself). Perhaps you have a crumb or something stuck in it and some occasions, left click inadvertently sends a right click too? It may be worth trying a different mouse, if all else fails.

I have not solved this, but it seems to come and go. For a couple of weeks there was no problem. Now it's back. I use a wireless USB mouse, so there aren't any mechanical parts to fail, and this kind of thing only happens in Flare. I have tried clicking the tab very carefully without moving the mouse and I still get the drag-off behavior.Today I turned off a setting labeled "Enable smart move," and things seem to be more stable. I usually like to have the cursor jump to the default button in a dialog, but not at the expense of having the tabs untab themselves with every pick. I'll see if this is really a solution.

Turning off the mouse setting "Enable smart move" definitely fixed the problem. I haven't floated a tab since.
