Index Entry Popup Text Color

Post by asmith »

I'm working in an HTML5 output using Flare v10.

A few of my index entries contain multiple topics, so I'm currently utilizing the index entry popups. As it stands, the current hover color is black, but I would like it to be red. I have attempted to edit the "Index Entry Popup" style in the Default Skin, but it does not change in the output when I build it. It still appears black. Can anyone point me in the right direction on whatever else I need to edit to make this change stick? I feel like I'm missing something obvious.

Any help or advice is appreciated. I can go back and have one topic per entry, but I'd like to know how to correct this in general. Thanks!

Hi Allison, I've had similar issues with x-refs. In your output, if you click the index link, and then go back and call up the index pop-up again, does the colour change work properly?

Atomdocs,
I tried your suggestion, but the color didn't change/update. I even refreshed multiple times and left the page and came back to it. I also republished the files. Unfortunately, no change.

You say that you are producing HTML5 help.

Your screenshot of the skin editor tells me that you're editing the wrong skin. The screenshot shows the skin for DotNetHelp, old-style WebHelp, and HTML Help (.chm).

You need to be editing the HTML5 skin.

Nita,
I have tried to edit the HTML5 skin, too, but I guess I'm missing the right attribute I'm supposed to be editing. Do you know which one affects the index popup?

I think you need to set the Navigation Panel Item and/or one or more of its variants (e.g., Navigation Panel Item (hover)). That said, it looks that there is not a separate style for styling just the index popup. The popup is just using the styling of all the other navigation panel items.

I contacted Flare Support for further instruction, and they provided me with some useful information.
As of now, there is not a way to edit the index popup entry links in Flare, but this can be done in the output files, or the source files. If this is done in the output files, it will have to be edited after every build, and if it's done in the source files, it will stay this way for every single build, using Flare.

For the output files method, you will navigate to the following location:

Output\[User Name]\HTML5\Skins\Default\Stylesheets

In here, you will find a TextEffects.css stylesheet. Open this in a text editor, such as Notepad++. You will want to find a string called, .link-list-popup ul li:hover, and under that string, you will want to change the color to red.

The same instructions will work for the source files, but the location is different. To change this in the source files, you will go to the following location:

C:\Program Files (x86)\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare V10\Flare.app\Resources\WebHelp2\Desktop\Skins\Default\Stylesheets

You will want to find the same string of code, and then change the color to red.
The ability to edit this within Flare has been submitted as a feature request, so fingers crossed!
