Highlighting topic titles in HTML5 TOC
I'm setting up an HTML5 output for on-line help, and I'd like to have the open topic title's background highlighted in the Contents tab so the user can see at a glance where in the help structure he/she is. Currently if I click on a topic in the Contents list, the text for that item turns bold but the background is not highlighted, and if I open a topic via a link from another topic then there is no indication in the Contants tab of which topic has opened - no bold text and the appropriate folder/subfolder does not open. It works in the Flare help so it's probably just a setting somewhere, but I can't find it. Can anyone help please?

Yes, it's one quick setting. In the skin editor on the General tab, select the check box "Automatically Synchronize TOC". That should do it.

Thanks Nita, that opens the folder and turns the text bold
.
Do you know if one can add a highlight to the background, e.g. darken it a bit to make it stand out even more? For example, looking at the HTML5 style sheet > Styles tab > Navigation Panel styles, the top item in the Contents tab (MadCap Software) has a pale blue background. I've tried setting a color for the Background property (I thought of that one!
) but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

It's not the style of navigation panel tab you want to change. Rather, look to change the background of navigation panel items. (Not sure exactly what they are called, but I'm pretty sure that "item" is part of the name.)
Are you using Flare 10, which has an "interactive" HTML5 skin editor? If yes, enable Highlight (on the skin editor's toolbar) and then click on a Contents item, and Flare will jump you to the particular thing whose style you need to adjust.
BTW, if you change the background for a Contents item, be aware that you're also changing it for items on the Index tab (and I presume the Glossary tab and Browse Sequence tab, if you use those). In short, for any "navigation panel item".

OK, thanks, I'll need to keep looking. I haven't upgraded to Flare 10 yet - we've just had a major product release so I didn't want to risk it until that was out of the way. I'll probably upgrade next week, then hopefully it will all become easier.

I do the same thing... wait to upgrade if I'm in the middle of a release.
In any case, you can definitely set the background using Flare 9. You need to work with the various Navigation Panel Item styles (there are several).
