show changes in output

Post by pdenchfield »

I want to show changes in my output, for my reviewer's benefit. Word or PDF would be the output format. Is there a way to show Flare's tracked changes in output?

One of the more requested features of Flare is the ability to show changes. While I haven't spent a ton of time with Flare 10, I didn't see this option as a new feature. However, here's a trick that somebody came up with that seems to work OK.

Thanks, wbrisett. Wow, seems like a lot of trouble duplicating styles in CSS - and that approach only shows new content at the paragraph level. It doesn't show new content within a paragraph, or removed content in any context. Bummer. :(

My reviewers need to see all content updates. In addition, our localization vendor needs to understand the context of in-sentence updates.

This is the process I'm following now:
1. Track changes in Flare and pass to internal reviewer (someone else who has Flare)
2. Upon internal approval, for each change, have the reviewer (or myself) accept the tracked change in Flare AND add an annotation indicating updated content that needs external review. If content was deleted within a sentence, note that in the annotation for localization purposes.
* Accepting tracked changes is required to output the updated content. Unless someone knows of a way to output tracked changes?
3. Build Word output for external review.
4. Go through the Word output, topic by topic, and denote what content has changed by comparing with Flare topic files. Send this saved Word output to the external reviewers.
5. Update Flare topic according to reviewers' comments. Update annotations as needed for localization.

Eager to improve this process. To all who read this thread, please let me know if you have a better process. Thanks!
