Hello,
I have MadCap Flare 9.x and received and update for Flare 10. Do I need to uninstall 9.x before installing 10 or can I just install 10?
Thanks,
Chris
Installing and Update
Re: Installing and Update
Just install it. You can run 9 and 10 at the same time. But you may find that installing Flare 10 changes a few Flare-wide Flare 9 settings. For example, I found that my preferred screen layout in Flare 9 was reset to the default one after the Flare 10 install. But such issues are minor.
However, when you install Flare 10, you may find that you're told there is an upgrade available (which there is, and it is worth installing, as it has some bug fixes). you will have to uninstall the version of Flare 10 you have just installed in order to install the update, as two versions of Flare 10 won't co-exist.

Re: Installing and Update
I really only want Flare 10 installed. Sounds like I just need to uninstall 9, the install 10. Thanks.
Re: Installing and Update
It's up to you, but I find it quite useful to have an older version of Flare available, in case I find any "funnies" with the latest version, especially while the latest version is still quite new. Then, one of the options is to see whether the problem occurs in the older version too, so I know whether to start looking for something I've done wrong, or whether it's a quirk of the latest version (this may not be a bug, it may just be a different default setting, for example). However, if you've not really used Flare 9, then this won't be relevant.
But note that there will always be a few things that are aren't backwards compatible (I suspect that table stylesheets are usually one of them, at least in earlier versions of Flare). So, for example, if that's the case for Flare 10 (I've not checked this yet) once you edit a table stylesheet in Flare 10, you may find you can't go back to Flare 9 with that stylesheet.

Re: Installing and Update
Thanks, I hadn't considered that. But since we aren't very far into the development of our help system, I think moving to version 10 will be ok. I'll just need to make sure my project files are saved so I can use them in the new version.

Re: Installing and Update
And DO install the update to 10.1, as it fixes several bugs and performance issues.
Started as a newbie with Flare 6.1, now using Flare 2024r2.

Re: Installing and Update
There is no need to uninstall Flare 9.x.
