minitoc heading
Is there a way to add a heading to the minitoc proxy, something like "In this section"? Flare's Help does not seem to cover this. http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare ... iniTOC.htm
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: minitoc heading
I don't think so. You'd need to add a paragraph directly above the miniTOC proxy with the phrasing you'd like.

Re: minitoc heading
Thanks, Nita. In this case the minitoc is inserted into a master page for my WebHelp output, and some topics don't have children topics, so I would like to show the paragraph above the minitoc only if there is a minitoc. I welcome any ideas!

You can do this by adding auto-number text to the MadCap | miniTocProxy style. For example:
I don't remember if you have to manually add the style to your stylesheet or if it's in there already.
Code: Select all
MadCap|miniTocProxy
{
mc-auto-number-format: 'In this section:';
mc-auto-number-class: miniTocBoxTitle;
border-top-width: 0px;
}-

Interesting idea; sounds like it should work!

Re: minitoc heading
Hmmm... no change. Any ideas?
CSS:
CSS:
Code: Select all
MadCap|miniTocProxy
{
margin-top: 20px;
padding-top: 0px;
mc-auto-number-format: 'In this section:';
mc-auto-number-class: miniTocBoxTitle;
}

Re: minitoc heading
Are you using Flare 10? Try the "before" pseudo class; that's new in Flare 10. I've never used it myself, so can't advise exact steps.

Re: minitoc heading
Also keep in mind that the mc-auto-number-class: miniTocBoxTitle is a span class that I defined in my stylesheet to control the styling of the "In this section" auto-number text. If you haven't done so, you would need to create your own span style and use that.
Re: minitoc heading
You also need to modify the DIV that contains the mini-TOC. Here are the styles I have in my stylesheet related to the mini-TOC. I'm including a couple for each, one that results in "In this section" preceding the entries, and one that says "In this section: How do I...". I also have a span class to control the appearance of that title. (I believe it was Dave Lee who originally documented this, so you can thank him.)
Code: Select all
MadCap|miniTocProxy
{
margin-top: 30px;
border-top: none;
mc-auto-number-class: miniTocBoxTitle;
margin-left: 0px;
padding-left: 0px;
mc-auto-number-format: 'In this section:';
}
MadCap|miniTocProxy.howDoI
{
margin-top: 30px;
border-top: none;
mc-auto-number-class: miniTocBoxTitle;
margin-left: 0px;
padding-left: 0px;
mc-auto-number-format: 'In this section: How do I...';
}
div.MCMiniTocBox_0
{
mc-auto-number-class: miniTocBoxTitle;
mc-auto-number-format: 'In this section:';
}
div.MCMiniTocBox_howDoI_0
{
mc-auto-number-class: miniTocBoxTitle;
mc-auto-number-format: 'In this section: How do I...';
}
span.miniTocBoxTitle
{
font-weight: bold;
color: #b88932;
}

Re: minitoc heading
Thanks, Lisa! I have my minitoc heading now.
EDIT: Just trying to figure out margins/padding above and below each item .... trying values for margins and padding... no luck - see my post here.

I thought this looked familiar.LTinker68 wrote:(I believe it was Dave Lee who originally documented this, so you can thank him.)
The reason you need to include the DIVs, is because Flare ignores the mc-auto-number-format property on MadCap|miniTocProxy when it builds the output. It will include other properties from the miniTocProxy, but not the autonumber.
Therefore, you have to manually add the mc-auto-number-format property to the output styles used for the minitoc, the div.MCMiniTocBox class(es).

Re: minitoc heading
Thanks, Dave, for the clarification on Flare use of styles for the miniTOC.
