Cannot copy files, access denied - Synchronize Function

Post by CATERAF »

Hihi,

I have a little bit of a dilemma with my mapped files. I am trying to synchronize them but I have a series of files that will not synchronize. Instead, I get an error that says 'Copying [file location and name 1] to [file name and location 2]. Could not copy file: Access to the path [file name and location 2] is denied.'

I am wondering why I don't have access to the location and how to fix that error?

Some more information;
The files that I cannot access are on the shared server. However, the server itself cannot be the problem because our IT department has tried giving full permissions to write/edit/etc and it still didn't work. Also, other files located on the server have synced with no problems at all.
I've tried looking at the file properties but I don't see anything odd looking.
It's only image files I'm having problems with and, of these files, it's both the .png and the .props files that don't seem to work.
I've tried closing and reopening Flare incase a previous 'crash' caused a problem with Flare.
I've tried on mutliple days after the computer has been shut down and restarted.
I've checked Madcap Analyzer and there are only 5 broken links but many more files than that which can't be copied so the links aren't broken.

I think that's all I can think of!

Thanks for your help! :)

Are the files flagged read-only? I've had this happen on occasion and received similar messages.

Thanks for the reply. I had checked the read-only status and it wasn't unfortunately. I had thought that may be the problem too.

Have you tried copying the whole project to your local PC, updating the changes to see if it works, then pushing it back to the server? That may give you an indication if it's a problem on the server (i.e., don't always trust IT ;).

I don't think it's an issue with the server because many of the files do synchronise on the server and they're all located on the same directory.
The project currently sits on my local PC so that it's faster (but I back it up to the server); it's just the images that other users contribute that sit on the server. Unfotunately I don't really want to move all the images as we have hundreds there -- I could try putting an image on my local pc and changing the mapping to see if that works.. would be time consuming to have to change all the mappings, but I also need it to synchronize so it's much of a muchness really.
