Hi,
I would like to know is there a way that we can resize the images while generating a PDF output. I mean, can we compress the size of the image at the time of PDF generation? Request you to help me on this. As I tried many options while generating PDF output in Target folder, however I could not find any other alternate. As, resizing each and evry image manually is difficult and just for generating PDF output does not make any sense, as it would be re-work to resize teh mages again and again for different outputs.
Therefore, I would like to know away out so that the images in teh PDF should be inline.

Re: Flare PDF output
I know of no way to automatically resize during PDF generation. Have you thought about automating the resizing? With tools like the excellent (and free) xnconvert (http://www.xnview.com/en/xnconvert/), all you would have to do is setup a batch entry and point it to you original images (I would also recommend having a resized image directory), then use the newly resized images in your project.

Re: Flare PDF output
PDF is considered a Print Output, so you can set the Print Size to be different than Size in the Edit Image dialog. The down side to this is no percent option, which means you have to enter the exact values for each image you want to be resized. Also, if memory serves me, you have to set the Maximum Size to get the best resolution (leaving the other settings at Default). I use the Resize Image feature in SnageIt to get the values.

Re: Flare PDF output
Percent size is available by stylesheet (CSS). I have several img classes set up in my CSS under print media, such as following.
You could add max-height: auto; but I've found it's unnecessary.
Hope this helps!
Code: Select all
img.SeventyFivePercent
{
max-width: 75%;
}Hope this helps!

So, what's the quality of the resized image when you use the css resize option (I didn't realize you could even do that!).

I use very large images in order to allow customers the ability to zoom into a PDF without seeing pixelized images (I found my own balance between PDF size and zoomability).wbrisett wrote:So, what's the quality of the resized image when you use the css resize option (I didn't realize you could even do that!).
Css resizing works very well and it is roughly equivalent to using any resizing tool to permanently change your images.

It is also worth noting that if you use MadCap Capture you can set separate sizes and file types for printed output. It works prettywell, and is a major reason I love Capture's integration with Flare.

Good to know. I've just been tasked with delivering PDFs in addition to my WebHelp projects. Thanks!pdenchfield wrote:Percent size is available by stylesheet (CSS). I have several img classes set up in my CSS under print media, such as following.
