Sending for Review based on pdf target

Post by scopley »

I want to be able to send an entire document for review in contributor based on a pdf target. Is there any way to make all the topics show up exactly as they would in the pdf target?

So far I've just been selecting all of the topics from the pdf target's TOC, but once received and opened in Contributor the topics don't look anything like they do in Flare.

Thanks for any help. I wasn't sure where to post this, here or on the contributor board....

This isn't an exact answer to your question but may help in the interim. As far as I know there is no way to view any output exactly as it would appear in Flare because Flare compiles all elements together to do the previews and builds whereas all that information may not be available in Contributor. I've submitted this feature idea to Madcap as I know many others have (but I don't know how hard it is to implement).

That said, I have found for my pdf documentation that when my reviewers are using Contributor they view the topics in Print Layout so they can see a rough idea of how it looks. However, it's not perfect and I'll sometimes get comments such as 'numbering is wrong' when in fact it's just that snippets can appear to 'mess up' numbering until the project is built. My reviewers seem to be happy with print layout though (especially after they started off in web layout and everything was looking strange).

Alternatively, if you can do a build and show the 'general' page layout so they have an idea in mind, would that help?

Not sure if you've tried either of them but I found it helped our team :-)
