Page Layouts and Footers

Post by GarrettDRussell »

Working with Flare V10. Is it at all possible to view the source code in the Footer Editor of a page layout file? If so, how would I go about this. There are no XML Editor or Text Editor tabs that allow me to view the code in my Footer.

This would be incredibly helpful for me in nesting a few div tags I have created since Capture doesn't allow you to layer a text box with your page number or page count variables on top of a footer graphic you have created. So I have resorted to creating div tags and aligning them this way in the footer to get the variables to lineup where I want them to on my footer graphic.

Maybe there is even a "best practice" way to do this that I am just unaware of right now.

Thanks,
Garrett

The page layout file is an XML file like everything else in Flare, so just open it in your favourite text editor and edit away. I occasionally do this if if I can't get at what I want any other way.

As far as positioning goes, I'm not sure if this would solve your problem, but I use tables heavily in headers and footers to get the layout where I want it. I even have table stylesheets for my header and footer tables.

The other thing you may find helpful is to float the footer from the stupid little window at the bottom of your screen where Flare dumps it when you press F2, and drop it in the pane with the rest of your topics. This doesn't give you any more tabs (like the text editor tab) so don't get too excited, but it does let you see what you're doing a bit more easily.

If you have an image that needs to be in your footer, use a decoration or image frame type. Don't use a Footer frame type.

Then put your text in the footer frame, and sink the decoration frame below the footer frame.

I also use tables extensively when editing page layout headers and footers.
