Flare 9 Window Layout Forgotten Since Flare 10

Post by Paul Griffiths »

Finally got round to installing Flare 10 alongside Flare 9. But now every time I open Flare 9, it forgets its window layout and has to be reset. Anyone else seen this, and have a workaround?

Paul,

Do you save your layout after you make your changes? On the Ribbon, go to the Window tab, Window Layout section and click Save Layout.

Now your layout should be retained when you re-start Flare. Though technically you shouldn't have to do this, as Flare remembers my layout without needing to save it, as long as I close Flare normally. (If I force-close Flare, the layout changes aren't retained.)

I'm with the original poster. I've noticed this too. I already have a saved layout, which I select using Window > Layout. But each time I close it and reopen it, I have to specify this again.

However, this post got me thinking. I do remember I had to copy my Flare 9 layouts over to Flare 10 originally. They are actually stored somewhere else in Flare 10 and didn't get ported across. So I tried giving Flare 10 a gentle nudge. In Flare 10, I selected the layout I wanted from the layouts I copied over, then did Window > Layout > Save Layout > Save Window Layout. The act of saving it as a Flare 10 layout seemed to do the trick. So you could try that.

FYI, the V9 layouts are here (Windows 7): C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\MadCap Software\Flare\CatapultMdiEditor\PaneLayoutsWpf v.1\Flare

and the V10 layouts are stored here: C:\Users\UserName>\AppData\Roaming\MadCap Software\Flare\CatapultMdiEditor\PaneLayoutsWpf v.2\Flare

In fact the act of simply saving a layout in Flare 10 greatly eased the problem (PaneLayoutsWpf v.2 didn't exist until I did). Many thanks to Paul and Marjorie for your help.
