10083: The directory is not empty.

Post by jwood_athoc »

I'm receiving the referenced error when building a PDF. Has anyone run across this? The log message says that it is from the compiler (internal error).

Make sure that anti-virus checking is turned off in the folder where you are building the output. Flare generates lots of temporary files then almost immediately, tries to open them again, by which time, over-enthusiastic AV software may have jumped in to check them. Flare struggles with this, and the error you are seeing is one of the possible consequences.

Even with AV checking turned off, it happens occasionally for no reason. Usually waiting a bit will clear it, or building another target, then trying the original again. If not, delete everything in the /Output folder, and try again.

One other issue with PDFs that tripped me up in the past is having the existing file at some point attached to an email in Outlook and not having closed Outlook since then. For no good reason Outlook seems to keep a thumb on PDFs that were once attached to an email. The fix is easy: restart Outlook.

As I was having this issue and none of the other fixes worked for me, I thought I'd share what finally resolved my problem. For me, it was simple. I had set the Stylesheet Medium to print, when I changed it to default, I no longer received the error and was able to build and publish. In hope this helps someone else.

Interesting information. Before your change, were you getting this error all the time, or only occasionally?

I frequently get this error as well. I find if I just close the error dialog and try to build again it works.
