I'm trying to use the "Inject headings for unlinked books in TOC" setting to place H1 chapter titles in my document. I want to apply a class, h1.heading1, to these. Anyone know if this can be done? I can't seem to figure it out or find the answer in a search of the forums.
Full disclosure: I am really new to Flare.
Thanks!
Style Classes with TOC Headings
Re: Style Classes with TOC Headings
As far as I can tell, Flare just inserts h1, h2, etc.
It does not take into account what you might have set for mc-heading-level; i.e. it will insert h1 and h2 regardless of what styles you might set as your level 1 and 2 headings with mc-heading-level. That seems to be a bug/limitation.
Give it a try, but I suspect you might have to manually enter the headings in topics.

Hi oh5igner,
Welcome to Flare and to the forums!
I also had a look to see if I could find an answer for you, and came to the same conclusion as Dave, that your default h1, h2 etc style will be used for injected headings, without allowing you to specify a class. In that case, you probably need to set these up so they are exactly the styles you want for the injected headings. Then, if you want other variants of these styles for use in other places, you can define style classes, and use them elsewhere.
If you have a support contract, do ask MadCap - their support is excellent. If haven't purchased Flare yet, but are using an evaluation copy, contact their sales department as you will find them very helpful too.
I'll mention something else that may (or may not) help. If the reason that you want to inject headings is because you are trying to single source HTML and print content from the same TOC, but don't want your HTML help to include links to topics that are just a single heading and no content, then I can tell you another way to do that, as that's how my content is set up. Let me know if you are interested in that.

Thanks for the replies, and the nice welcome! Marjorie, that's exactly what I'm trying to do so I would appreciate hearing your alternative. Thanks!
Re: Style Classes with TOC Headings
Hi there,
Here's how I do it, but here's my full confession. I did it this way when I first started with Flare, as I wasn't aware of any other way at the time I was trying to do it. I'd certainly consider using injected headings now, although, as you say, it looks like you are stuck with your default heading styles.
I set up the TOC with links to the single line header topics for the books. Then I made these single line header topics Print-Only, but at the topics level, NOT on the TOC entry. That is, I right-clicked on the topic in Content Explorer, selected Properties, and set the condition there. When the print target is built, you get the headers exactly where you want them. When the WebHelp is built, if you click on a book topic, it just expands/collapses, and doesn't change the help page that is currently displayed.
A side effect is that in the WebHelp, breadcrumbs won't work, as you don't have anything to link to at the book levels in the breadcrumb trail. I suspect that would be the same with injected headings, as again, there won't be anything to link to at the book levels in the WebHelp.
Here's a copy of a slide I made, showing how some example topics had been set up.
Note that at the time, I'd not got as far as getting to grips with the "Use TOC depth for heading levels" target option either - if I set this up again, I'd consider using that too now, to avoid having to worry about differing heading levels.
