PDF bookmark but not TOC entry?

Post by pdenchfield »

I want the PDF output to include a bookmark for the "Contents" heading, but I don't want "Contents" to appear in the TOC. How can I set this up?

I'd be curious to know how this can be done as well. As far as I have found, it can't. I've eliminated the Table of Contents entry (as well as other front matter) from the TOC by using a separate style, but then need to manually add the bookmarks in the PDF file after generating.

I don't think you can. I suggest an enhancement request. The PDF bookmarks appear to be tied to the actual document table of contents entries, which isn't always what is required. For example, I wanted to go to level 4 in the PDF bookmarks, but only level 3 in the printed table of contents, as well as getting rid of the entry for the table of contents in the table of contents.

I think I raised one a couple of years ago, but if not, I'll add my voice. I'd prefer more control too, and have settled for a sub-optimal solution (but most definitely *not* Pamela's of adding bookmarks by hand. :-( )

I'd agree with this one wholeheartedly. Being able to add a bookmark to a table of contents but not a table of contents link to the table of contents (ow the dumb) is pretty durn fundamental to sensible PDF output.
