Space after Cross-Reference

Post by rjn572 »

I've created a new Cross-Reference type: {paranum}, {paratext} to achieve eg
see "Section 1.2, Common Procedures"

I'm getting an extra space after the paranum and before the comma:
see "Section 1.2 , Common Procedures"

the code is:
<MadCap:xref href="Common Procedures.htm" class="SectionNumText">Section 1  , Common Procedures</MadCap:xref></p>

Why is it inserting the "&#160"?
In fact it does this for all my cross-refs.

Thanks for any pointers.

What does the Insert Cross-ref dialog box look like? This contains the formatting for the cross-ref, so if you can post a screenshot of that (for the medium you're having problems with) and we might be able to help.

Re: Space after Cross-Reference

I've just done a bit more digging and discovered that the extra space is being picked up from my Heading auto-number.

This is my Heading 1 auto-number:
"Section {chapnum} "

This displays my heading as:
"Section 1 Introduction"

My cross-ref is: "see Section {paranum}, {paratext}"
Which displays as: "see Section 1 , Introduction" (see the two spaces before the comma)

So I guess now my question has changed to: am I correct in using spaces at the end of my Heading auto-numbers, and if not how would I achieve the space between auto-number and heading text?

Thanks,

Hmm... a workaround could be to use a dash rather than a comma? Or even dispense with the comma, seeing as you don't use it in your headings.

Would have to scratch my head and think about a proper fix for the problem so you can use a comma.

Thanks.
I guess it's not the end of the world without a comma but I just wondered how others formatted their headings ie space between number and text ie "1.1 Heading Text"?
I could remove the space after the heading auto-number and just include a space manually when I insert each heading.

I would avoid having to manually insert spaces, for your solution I'd either manage without the comma or use a dash instead.

Re: Space after Cross-Reference

I'm having problems with my Figure cross reference formatting.

My Figure auto numbers are formatted as: CF:Figure {chapnum}–{n+}:

For example this gives me: "Figure 1-1: Figure Title"

When I add a cross-reference for a figure I select the bookmark and use: See {paranum}

But.... the colon appears in the cross reference, for example: "See Figure 1-1:"

Can anybody advise on a solution to this please?

I don't have Flare open at the moment, but if you go into edit or create a new cross-reference, it will show you the list of possible parameters and will show you examples of the resulting format. I think what you want is paratext or something similar. You might need to create a new xref format if there isn't one that has what you want, but I'm pretty sure one of the defaults has what you want. If you do want to create one, you can easily do it from the screen where you select the xref format.

EDIT: The previous post seems to have been cross-posted. See the other post for more responses. -> http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... =6&t=19605
