Importing HTML File Outside of Content Folder?

Post by asmith »

Hello,

I am using Flare v10, and outputting HTML5 web help.

I have a single HTML file that I need to import/upload & publish as part of my final output, but it does not need to be in the "Content" folder. I am able to build the desired output (HTML5 Webhelp), then manually add the HTML file to the main output folder, successfully placing it outside of the "Content" folder. Then, I publish the output, successfully including the file in the help system.

My question: Is there any way to do this within Flare itself instead of manually placing the file in the correct directory level each time? I did not see an option to import files outside of the Content folder. Just wondering if I am missing something.

Any assistance or input is welcome. Thank you!
Allison

Just curious - is there a particular reason for not importing the file into the Content folder?

For example, we have source image files we create in Adobe Illustrator and store in a "Source_Images" folder at the project root. We store them here because we found that when stored within the Content folder, they contributed to the file size of generated CHMs. However, in our case, we also don't need to integrate these source files into the generated output (and only need to include the exported PNG files that are stored in the Images folder).

I'd suggest looking at either:
- External Resources; you can use this to sync files in your project with another location.
- A project import (known also as 'global project linking'); you can use this to import files from another project.

Confusion in Location of Output Folder and Pushing it

Hello... I am in big troble so hoping you people help me out.. Actually i am new to Madcap flare in my new org. And while giving the build of Help Content i am facing an issue.
The changes i am doing are not properly reflected in the Output folder generated. Also, i am little worried about the location of OUTPUT Folder. My Output Folder on providing the build is generated in D:/Folder/HELP/ and its is also available in D:/Folder/HELP/Source/Output/anchalg/help

I am confused which is the correct folder... In the Primary target location i have set D:/Folder/HELP/ as the Output folder location but when i view my Output via Mafcap flare ' Open Output Folder' option, the folder it shows is in D:/Folder/HELP/Source/Output/anchalg/help.

I am not able to view the changes properly and also the buildmaster when deploying the Help Build on Local port then the Help is not showing the updated Help pages.
Please reply asap as i have given a deadline to solve this.

There are 2 places to think about - the Output folder, and the published destination.

Normally, I leave the output folder in the target as default, so that the build generates the help in the ...\Project\Output folder. This is good for testing and viewing the project locally.
Then, when it is ready, I publish it to a website or shared location using the Publish Destinations. The Publish feature is great for updating just the files that have changed, etc. I'd create a "destination" at the location that your buildmaster wants the files and leave the Output folder in the target left as the default.

You can get more information on destinations in the help file at: http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare ... ations.htm

Kindly reply to my question asked above...

I also want to know can i del the output folder if i have changed the location. Example: if earlier it was generating on location provided in Primary Target and now i have changed it to default location like you said.. So can i delete the output folder which is still available in another location.

Waiting fr yr reply...

You might want to contact Tech Support if you aren't able to resolve this.

Also with humble respect I find it very difficult to understand what you're writing when you use txtspk, particularly when trying to grasp what you're doing. Others may also just skip over your post because of this, so you might get more response if you use full words.

Thank you so much for your reply..And I am sorry for the inconvenience caused because of using the textese.

I want to know that now I have two output folders one at the Target location specified by me and one inside the project (default Location)...As i have made the output location as default in Primary Target that is why now 2 output folders are there.

1. Can u please suggest me what to do now? Which output folder should I add and commit to Tortoise git? And can delete the extra output folder?
2. Also my concern is all the changes done is reflected in my Output Folder generated after build but when it is getting deployed by build master on local for Quality Assurance testing then it shows the Old Help Pages (with no recent updations). The content and changes i am adding is not reflecting online.

Can u please respond what can be the problem? I hope now you people can get what i am trying to ask

3. Kindly tell me how can i get the technical support? Is it paid or free for licensed Users?

Thanks

I think I see several issues here so it is hard to tell you what to do - I can only say what I do.

I only use the default Output folder - this folder is effectively for temporary builds only, and I often use the Clean Project function which deletes it completely. From a Flare point of view you should be able to delete the Output folders you have created, but you need to check with your build team to find out what they are using - we can't tell what folders they expect to exist.

When I want to publish something for QA testing I use a destination and I publish the output there. I don't put output into a source control system - you will have to work that out with your build master. I think that only the project/source files should be stored, not the output.

I have a maintenance licence for technical support - I am not sure what support you can get - you will need to ask a sales rep about that.

Hi Anchal,

This is a peer support forum, no-one is on the madcap payroll... Madcap's support people do drop in from time to time but this isn't the best place to contact them.

If you click on the Report a Bug button on the Help tab of Flare's ribbon your browser will open in Madcap Software's support portal. There are links for Tech Support on the webpage menus.

I must ask why you want to add output to your source control? In most cases it is best practice not to add anything to source control that can be rebuilt from existing content.

You can delete output folders, when Flare builds a target or publishes a target it will recreate the folders it needs.
